The Hawaii Kai Jaycees (HKJC) is a 501 (c)(4) Not-For-Profit Organization founded in 1994 and a chapter of Junior Chamber International (JCI), a global leadership development organization for young adults. JCI started as an initiative in the United States, formerly known as the US Junior Chamber of Commerce. Today, we are structured from the international organization JCI, to the national level, known as JCI USA in the US which encompasses all states that have a local chapter, to the state level, JCI Hawaii which currently encompasses seven local chapters which include the Hawaii Kai Jaycees a.k.a JCI Hawaii Kai.

Brief History

We were founded by former Maui Jaycees who moved to Hawaii Kai. During this time, Hawaii had many Junior Chamber chapters, about 40 existed on Oahu alone which include the Waikiki Jaycees, Ala Moana Jaycees, Kaneohe Jaycees, and many more. However, none existed for the Hawaii Kai community. The former Maui Jaycees who now lived in Hawaii Kai really wanted a chapter for their area, so interest to start a chapter gain popularity and the chapter was founded in 1994 by both residents and non-residents of Hawaii Kai. Hence, membership is open to all Oahu residents 18 to 40 years of age. While the chapter was founded for the Hawaii Kai community, the Hawaii Kai Jaycees serves all of Oahu, especially now that many communities no longer have a chapter of their own. The Hawaii Kai Jaycees strives to be a welcoming organization for young leaders and professionals, to join together to make a positive impact in the local community and beyond.

A New Bond of Friendship

In 2014, JCI Nagoya, Japan reached out to us, and in 2015 we officially became sister chapters. In addition to our bond of friendship, we have collaborated in events and projects.
